Davin K. Ojala has 19 years of environmental consulting experience performing and managing environmental investigations and assessments for a variety of contaminated sites and brownfield redevelopment projects in southwest Michigan. Davin serves as the Environmental Services Team Leader in SME’s Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids offices. As such, he manages environmental projects involving assessment of contamination, real estate due diligence, regulatory compliance, and brownfield redevelopment and financing. He is experienced in the assessment and remediation of environmentally contaminated sites under Michigan’s Part 201 and Part 213 (Leaking UST) programs. Davin has a BS degree in Geography and Environmental Resource Management and Environmental Studies from Western Michigan University. He is also an accredited Asbestos Building Inspector in the State of Michigan and has performed more than 60 asbestos assessments for buildings scheduled for renovation or demolition.

Davin has performed and managed hundreds of projects requiring BEAs and Compliance Analysis/Due Care Plans. The activities associated with these projects have consisted of site evaluation, removal of USTs, soil excavation, monitoring well installation and soil/groundwater sample collection. Managing various federal and state brownfield funding and incentive programs, he is responsible for securing more than $12 million in federal, state and local incentives to support brownfield redevelopment projects.

Excelling at environmental redevelopment challenges, Davin believes strongly in fighting for his clients and getting their voices heard. Knowing they’ve put their trust in him, for whatever challenges they face, he is motivated to get answers to the complex questions, including utilizing the skills of other SME experts when necessary. Davin has a knack for understanding and communicating effectively with his clients to build strong professional relationships.

Davin is a member of the Michigan Economic Developers Association. Davin volunteers for the American Youth Soccer Association and enjoys coaching young players, including his two young daughters, who are taking after their dad in their love of the sport. Davin is also the former Chairman for the Kalamazoo Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and has been an active member of their fundraising committee since 2004. He is a fan of U of M football and also follows the Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers teams.
