Jason Cheney is a Project Consultant and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) in SME’s Indianapolis office. As a member of SME’s Environmental Services group, he manages a variety of projects including environmental due diligence, site assessments for brownfield redevelopment support, underground storage tank (UST) closures and assessments, hazardous building materials assessment, and abatement projects. Jason also serves as Team Leader for SME's Indianapolis Environmental senior project level team members.

Jason is a licensed Asbestos Inspector through the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) program. He holds a BS degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, and a MS degree in Business Administration. He has 18 years of experience providing due diligence services including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II investigations, regulatory compliance consulting, UST removal consulting, industrial hygiene surveys, and hazardous materials abatement management. Since 2006, his work has been focused on providing due diligence for Brownfield projects. Jason is grateful for the opportunity to see communities be positively impacted by his work, from seeing abandoned and dilapidated industrial facilities and hospitals turned into much needed residential housing, and underutilized properties revitalized and re-used.

Clients routinely need things done “yesterday.” Jason has always taken pride in his ability to get things done in a quality manner and within tight deadlines. He can be counted on to get a project out the door or problems solved in the timeframe needed by the client. Jason has a knack for assessing and responding to clients’ needs, and he proactively builds and maintains strong client and community relationships.

Actively participating in professional and business organizations is important to Jason. He serves as a Board Member of the Indiana Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (INAHMP) and is a member of Theta Tau National Professional Engineering Fraternity. A conscientious member of the community where he lives, Jason is proud to be a member of the Sons of the American Legion, a patriotic service organization formed in 1932 to serve veterans, the military and their families. He is active in the Lowell Beaver Post in Fishers, Indiana. Jason also attends and volunteers at the Fishers United Methodist Church.

Jason has strong family values and those same values drive him to do the best for his clients, coworkers and employer. Away from the office, he most enjoys spending time with his two daughters and his wonderful wife. They enjoy visiting local parks, fishing, riding roller coasters, and watching sports together.
