Mark A. Halloway, OHST serves as SME’s Corporate Safety Director and Senior Project Consultant in the Environmental Group. Mark has 26 years of experience performing and managing environmental and hazardous materials assessments, monitoring hazardous materials removal projects, designing and managing asbestos and hazardous materials removal projects, and conducting remediation contractor bidding and administration. This expertise has led to his recognition by clients, peers, and contractors as a knowledgeable, no-nonsense expert in renovation and demolition involving asbestos and other hazardous materials, with a specific emphasis on the National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) asbestos regulation.

Mark also has considerable experience in exposure assessment, respiratory protection, and health and safety training. He provides senior technical and project management for hazardous materials projects as well as hazard assessment, fit testing, safety training and other safety-related concerns. Since joining SME in 1995, Mark has progressed from providing field services to managing projects and has been appointed SME’s Respiratory Protection Administrator and Corporate Safety Director.

Mark is motivated by helping clients identify, manage, and remediate hazardous materials to facilitate operations, renovations, and demolitions by developing safe, swift, and efficient project designs so that neglected, contaminated, and dilapidated properties can be redeveloped and brought back to productive use. Mark also believes in considering the client’s total project plan and goals when developing remediation strategies, and using creative consulting solutions to bring added value to projects by reducing remediation costs.

Mark is also dedicated to preserving the health and safety of SME’s Team Members. Providing safety-related information and training, hazard assessment, and addressing the health and safety concerns of SME’s staff are some of the administrative tasks that keep Mark coming to work each day. Mark derives a great deal of satisfaction in giving our Team Members the knowledge and tools necessary to conduct their work safely and return home to their families at the end of the day.

Mark is well-traveled and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys going to new places and experiencing different cultures as well as communing with nature, hiking, fishing and camping. Mark is a fine wine enthusiast and an aficionado of gourmet food with a particular predilection for hot, spicy food. He plants an extensive vegetable garden each year and relishes a wide variety of hot peppers.
