Mark Kramer to Participate in GBA "Bridge the Gap" Task Force
Oct 13 2016
Seattle, Washington

SME President and GBA Fellow Mark K. Kramer, PE will join colleagues from some of the most prominent engineering and construction firms in the country for a special meeting focused on bridging the gap between information provided in a geotechnical report and that required to design various specialty geotechnical construction techniques.

While the consultant may believe specialty techniques are proprietary or the inclusion of data increases risk, the contractor requires geotechnical characteristics that are best provided by the consultant. This task force will expose the hurdles associated with this “gap” followed by the thoughtful development of proposed solutions to allow the geotechnical consultant to be better prepared to address specialty techniques, their technical requirements and applicability to site challenges. Furthermore, the group will prepare guidelines for the practicing consultant to help them better communicate these scope items and their benefits to the owner.
