Firm Presented With Recognition at Annual Engineering Excellence Awards Event in Kalamazoo

Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. (SME) is pleased to announce it has been named by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan (ACEC/M) as its 2012 ACEC Michigan ‘Firm of the Year’. The award was presented to SME by ACEC/M Executive Director Ron Brenke, PE, at the ACEC Michigan Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Banquet held at the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

ACEC/M is a nonprofit trade organization made up of 130 engineering, surveying and consulting companies, and is the business voice of the Michigan consulting engineering industry. The ACEC/M Firm of the Year award was established to recognize member firms for their leadership in professional and community service. Recognition is based on actions taken by a member firm to progressively develop its management practices, and for assuming leadership roles in community outreach activities and ACEC/M programs that strengthen the profession for all ACEC/M members.

“ACEC Michigan is proud to name SME as the 2012 Member Firm of the Year,” said Brenke. “SME’s contributions to ACEC and the engineering community are endless, and provide an excellent model for others to follow. They are a first class firm with talented people who deliver superb results for owners across Michigan and throughout the Midwest.”

SME is a nationally recognized geoscience, materials and environmental consulting firm. The firm works with their clients to develop solutions for complex issues related to property due diligence and acquisition; site development and redevelopment; brownfield remediation and financing; environmental challenges; building condition analysis, renovation and maintenance; pavement evaluation, rehabilitation and management; construction materials testing; and more. SME also identifies and reduces geotechnical risks and concerns associated with existing structures and at construction sites on behalf of their clients.

“We are honored for SME to receive this important recognition from ACEC Michigan,” said Mark Kramer, PE, SME President and CEO. “The award is an acknowledgement for the efforts of all SME staff for their service to ACEC Michigan, our clients, and our communities; for their research and publications that help advance the engineering profession; and for their commitment to mentoring students and introducing young people to the field of engineering.”
