Location: Grand Rapids, Plymouth, and Shelby Township, Michigan

SME is seeking Senior Staff Engineers for regular, full-time positions with our Geotechnical Services group in our Grand Rapids, Plymouth, and Shelby Township, Michigan offices.

Responsibilities include:
• Preparing proposals, letters, reports and other project related correspondence;
• Performing complex site inspections;
• Installation and reading of geotechnical instrument
• Managing a variety of geotechnical projects;
• Laying out and scheduling of drilling and geotechnical investigation projects; and
• Evaluating soils and construction materials.

Requirements for these positions includes:
• A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering whose area of specialization is Geotechnical Engineering;
• Preference will be given to candidates who have previous Co-op/Intern experience and EIT with intention to obtain PE license, and an interest in Consulting Engineering;
• Ability to read plans and specifications;
• Excellent communication, report writing and customer relations skills;
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to new challenges and learn new concepts;
• A willingness to work hard in an efficient and organized manner;
• A clean driving record and experience driving in the U.S.;
• The ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for long periods of time, work from heights and in tight spaces, and work in inclement weather;
• Willingness to travel to cover out-of-town overnight projects; and,
• Ability to work overtime, including weekends, on an as-needed basis.
