JIMMY JOHN’S FIELD NAMED CREW DETROIT SPECIAL IMPACT AWARD WINNER

SME is proud to announce that Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Detroit has named Jimmy John’s Field as its 2016 Special Impact Award recipient. SME was a key member of the project team, providing civil, geotechnical and environmental engineering.

The CREW Detroit Impact Awards recognize projects that have made a “unique impact on its surrounding community whether it be social, economic or environmental.”

The transformation of two landfills in the City of Utica into the $15 million Jimmy John’s Field marks the largest redevelopment project the City has ever seen. It has spurred revitalization of downtown Utica, creating a destination where families gather, businesses thrive, and the community can enjoy its treasured natural resources along the Clinton River.

General Sports and Entertainment, Frank Rewold and Son, Inc., the City of Utica, Macomb County and other local supporters worked together to bring this project to life. Redeveloping the landfill sites posed many challenges, including environmental contamination and geotechnical settlement. With help from the City, Macomb County, State of Michigan, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), the team secured $3 million in funding to address a host of environmental response measures and constructability issues associated with the landfill parcels.
