SME Appoints Several Individuals to Key Leadership Roles

SME President and CEO Mark K. Kramer, PE has announced the appointment of several individuals to key leadership roles.

“These fine people have earned the respect of their peers and are recognized as team players who are dedicated to SME, their profession, and our clients,” said Kramer. “We appreciate their leadership both internally at SME and externally through their volunteerism in professional and community-based organizations.”

Chuck A. Gemayel, PE has been named Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President. Since joining SME in 1987, Chuck has held positions of increasing responsibility. In this new role, he works closely with all of our Group Leaders to continuously improve service delivery and develop strong client relationships. Chuck is an expert in pavement design, management and evaluation, knowledgeable in state-of-the-art analysis and evaluation of highway and airfield pavements, and proficient in materials testing procedures including conventional as well as state-of-the-art methods. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Pennsylvania, and has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and MS degree in Civil Engineering from Arizona State University.

Daniel O. Roeser, PG has been named Chief Marketing Officer. Dan also serves as Regional Vice President, leading the Plymouth, Shelby Township, Detroit, and Cleveland regional teams in civil engineering design and construction including geotechnical, environmental, construction materials and facilities engineering. He manages a variety of multi-service urban redevelopment projects from the site selection and acquisition phases to the grand opening. A licensed Professional Geologist with 32 years of experience, Dan has been with SME for 25 years.

Andrew J. Emmert, CPA, has also been named Senior Vice President. Andy has 32 years of accounting experience. As Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President, Andy is responsible for all corporate and project financial accounting and finance functions, budgeting, project financial training, business insurance, corporate banking relationships, corporate insurance, and all accounting and tax functions. He serves as a strategic partner with SME’s leadership team and as Group Leader of our Information Systems Team. Andy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of Detroit Mercy.
The following team members have been named Vice Presidents:

Cheryl A. Kehres-Dietrich, CGWP, Vice President, Environmental Services
Cheryl provides senior project management and serves as a senior technical resource for SME’s environmental team. She has 33 years of environmental experience as a hydrogeologist, focusing on large/complex contaminated sites and Brownfield Redevelopment.

Jeffery M. Krusinga, PE, GE, Vice President/Regional Office Manager, Kalamazoo Office
Jeff has 31 years of experience with evaluation of stability for both existing and proposed slopes and embankments. His breadth and depth of experience has provided him with the ability to design site-specific scopes of service that help clients solve tough challenges and complete successful projects.

Eric A. Murrell, RA, CCS, CSI, Vice President, Building Materials Services
Eric is Group Leader for SME’s Building Materials Services Group. He is an expert in evaluation, consulting, and design services for exterior enclosure, weatherproofing, atypical flashing conditions, and multiple material interface detailing. He specializes in high-durability construction, including healthcare and higher education architecture, with emphasis on exterior enclosure design and quality assurance, including document review.

Louis J. Northouse, PE, Vice President/Regional Office Manager, Grand Rapids Office
Lou began his career with SME 20 years ago as a field engineer. Since then, he has taken on increasingly influential leadership roles and now coordinates a diverse team of engineers and technicians to oversee consulting services related to geotechnical engineering, building materials and construction materials testing services.

Jason A. Schwartzenberger, PE, Vice President, Pavement Design Services
Jason is Group Leader for SME's Pavement Services Group. His 20 years of experience with SME includes pavement condition assessments, implementing pavement management systems, destructive and nondestructive testing, developing feasible pavement rehabilitation options utilizing latest construction techniques, preparing plans and specifications, and providing construction administration and testing services.

Tiffany D. Vorhies, NACE CIP-2, Vice President, Steel, Coatings, and Nondestructive Testing Services
Tiffany is Group Leader for SME’s Steel/Coatings/Nondestructive Testing Services Group. She has been performing coatings inspection and specification since 2007, and is considered a local expert for coating assessments. Her coating project inspection experience includes multiple bridges, tank liners, tank exteriors, water towers, building facades, structural steel, helipads, stadiums, coast guard boats, piping and many specialty components.
