SME RECOGNIZES TEAM MEMBERS WITH PRESIDENT’S AWARDS

Each year SME President and CEO Mark K. Kramer, PE, hand selects recipients for the company’s highest honor, the President’s Award. The award recognizes team members who consistently demonstrate excellence in both their work and their attitude. This year’s honorees are Joel W. Rinkel, PE, and Tiffany D. Vorhies, NACE CIP-2.

“I am pleased to recognize Joel and Tiffany with the President’s Award. They set the bar high and exemplify the hard work in solving tough challenges that SME has built our reputation on,” said Kramer.

With 23 years of experience at SME, Rinkel stands out for his communication skills and empathy with clients and team members. He relishes the fact that every day is an opportunity to accomplish something good by helping those in need both in and out of the office. Rinkel is known as the go-to problem solver pertaining to soils and subsurface materials, being well versed in designing earth retention and dewatering systems, specialty foundation, and foundation underpinning projects. He consistently designs unique approaches to provide quality, cost-effective projects. Rinkel has BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan. He has been a project manager for more than 1,200 geo-civil and shoring design, geotechnical, pavement and construction materials services projects.

Vorhies is Group Leader for SME’s Steel/Coatings/Nondestructive Testing Services Group. She has been performing coatings inspection and specification since 2007, and is considered a local expert for coating assessments. Vorhies has a knack for communicating with owners and contractors to facilitate collaboration and quality despite tight schedules. Her collaborative attitude and reputation for commitment to quality have led to owners requesting her by name to oversee their projects. Tiffany has a BS degree in Construction Management from Eastern Michigan University. She is a member of the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), the MUST and MOST Safety Programs, and the Data Integrity Security Administration (DISA). She currently serves as chair of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Detroit chapter.
