SME NAMES THREE NEW GROUP LEADERS

As part of SME’s continued efforts to align service offerings to best meet client’s needs, three new group leaders have been named. Eric Murrell, Jason Schwartzenberger and Tiffany Vorhies are tasked with growing SME’s presence in their respective service areas and strengthening their teams’ technical, project management, and service delivery capabilities.

“These are three very accomplished professionals, and SME is fortunate to have them leading the efforts to grow our service areas,” said SME President and CEO Mark K. Kramer, PE.

Eric A. Murrell, RA, CCS, CSI has been promoted to Group Leader of SME’s Building Materials Services group. His team includes professional engineers, architects and technical staff committed to providing comprehensive services to optimize the service life and performance of facilities, structures and equipment.

Murrell is an expert in evaluation, consulting, and design services for exterior enclosure, weatherproofing, atypical flashing conditions, and multiple material interface detailing. He performs building enclosure energy assessment and air infiltration failure analyses and specializes in high-durability construction. With 31 years of experience, he is a licensed architect in Michigan. He holds a BS degree in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan.

Jason A. Schwartzenberger, PE, has been promoted to Group Leader of Pavement Services. His team specializes in all aspects of pavement engineering, pavement management and site civil design. With decades of experience, these engineers offer comprehensive pavement engineering expertise including design of new pavements, evaluation of existing pavements, site civil design, and construction administration.

Schwartzenberger has 19 years of experience in pavement condition assessments, implementing pavement management systems, destructive and nondestructive testing, developing feasible pavement rehabilitation options, preparing plans and specifications, and providing construction administration and testing services. He is experienced in design, construction and inspection of shallow and deep foundations and earthwork operations, and earth retention systems. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan and has a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Tiffany D. Vorhies, NACE CIP-2 has been promoted to Group Leader of SME’s newly formed Steel and Coatings Services group. Her team of consulting engineers, certified technicians, and inspection professionals provide a variety of services. They offer nondestructive testing (NDT), bolting and welding inspection to verify the quality of fabricated steel structures, as well as failure analysis related to protective coatings and linings.

Vorhies has been performing coatings inspection and specification for nearly 10 years, and is considered a local expert for coating assessments. Her coating project inspection experience includes multiple bridges, tank liners, tank exteriors, water towers, building facades, structural steel, helipads, stadiums, coast guard boats, piping and many specialty components. Her steel related project management experience includes projects such as conveyor integrity assessments, American Petroleum Institute (API) tank audits, bridge inspections, fabrication shop audits and specialty nondestructive testing (NDT) reviews. She has a BS degree in Construction Management from Eastern Michigan University.
