Joseph L. Noykos, PE manages geotechnical engineering and drilling services for SME’s Bay City office. He has been providing service to SME clients for 22 years and enjoys driving past a project he helped make a reality. As Senior Project Engineer, Joe prepares proposals, provides project set-up and management, prepares reports for geotechnical evaluations, and provides design recommendations. He also provides field engineering and construction materials testing in support of geotechnical projects. Joe is experienced and well versed in managing large, multi-faceted projects with multiple service areas including engineering design, pavement design, construction materials testing, and environmental remediation design specifications. Joe is a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan and has a BS degree in Civil Engineering.

Joe believes in the importance of customer service. He is someone who understands how complex all of the components of a project can be from a client’s point of view. Therefore, Joe strives to convey project details, issues and options to his clients in a language they can understand. His goal is to make the process as painless as possible for the client, stay under budget, and keep them informed throughout the duration of the project. If at the end of a project he hears a client say “Joe’s a good guy,” he feels the day has been a success.

Joe is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Foundation Engineers. He is a recipient of the 2014 Roads and Bridges Magazine/ARRA Recycling Award for the Consumers Energy Karn-Weadock Generation Plant full depth reclamation (FDR) project.

Outside of his work environment, you will likely find Joe spending time with his two wonderful children. They will likely be watching Detroit Tigers baseball or Detroit Lions football, as Joe is an avid fan and rarely misses a game. He is a huge movie buff and also spends a lot of time firing up his smoker preparing a variety of unique meats and cheeses, truly an art in itself.
