Meet Janna Stath, PE, SME Senior Environmental Project Engineer!

We are excited to welcome Janna Stath, PE to the SME Team. Janna joins our Indianapolis regional office as a Senior Environmental Project Engineer. Her journey in the environmental industry spans nearly three decades and her path has been clearly marked by her deep commitment to cleaning up the world.
From an early age, Janna was drawn to environmental work to make a real difference in the world. She chose remediation due to a strong pull to fix hazardous waste sites. When the opportunity arose to join SME, Janna was attracted by our reputation for brownfields redevelopment, and its team-based culture that encourages collaboration across services, offices, and disciplines. She values SME’s integrated approach to site development and redevelopment, as well as its commitment to building and revitalizing communities.
Janna’s varied background in both industrial and consulting roles offers valuable new perspectives and a wealth of experience to central Indiana, further enriching SME’s ability to serve the region. Her early career managing environmental compliance at a large paper mill provided her with hands-on expertise in navigating the regulatory landscape and mitigating environmental impacts in complex operational environments. Transitioning into consulting, Janna sharpened her analytical skills and became adept at tackling multifaceted site assessments, compliance audits, and waste remediation projects.
Her specialized knowledge in soil, groundwater, and vapor remediation, coupled with a deep understanding of industrial decontamination, particularly involving PCBs and lead, means she brings practical, proven solutions to even the most challenging projects. Janna’s methodical approach to piecing together site histories and environmental data allows her to uncover effective strategies tailored to the project needs.
Janna’s collaborative spirit, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to revitalizing communities make her not only a reliable project manager but also a trusted partner for our clients seeking sustainable, economically sound outcomes for their projects. While still early into her tenure at SME, her presence is already strengthening our team’s ability to further strengthen delivery of practical, integrated solutions that support both environmental stewardship and our clients’ success.
Outside of work, Janna loves road trips and national parks. Her vacations often mean hiking, like traversing the Grand Canyon from rim to rim. She enjoys live music at local venues and festivals, and delights in exploring new places. Many of her best memories involve impromptu adventures with her Volkswagen bug. No matter where she goes, she looks forward to each experience.
Through her commitment to environmental stewardship, her strong collaborative approach, and her extensive expertise, she will serve as a significant asset to the SME team and a reliable partner for clients focused on community development and revitalization.
