National Volunteer Week invites reflection on the role people and organizations play in strengthening the communities around them. It recognizes the power of showing up consistently, leading with care, and using time and talents to support others. From revitalizing neighborhoods to providing essential resources and building strong community connections, these efforts reflect a shared responsibility to care for the places we call home. National Volunteer Week reminds us that when people come together with purpose, the impact extends far beyond a single moment and helps shape stronger, more resilient communities.
At SME, this mindset is part of our culture. It is reflected in the way our team members connect with their communities and the way the company supports them in doing so.
SME Cares: Built and Led By Our Team
SME Cares is a program that brings our commitment to community engagement to life. It connects service opportunities, charitable giving, and long‑standing partnerships designed to support meaningful involvement and lasting impact.
What truly defines SME Cares is the people behind it. Team Members across SME lead efforts by building relationships with community organizations, planning initiatives, and creating opportunities for others to get involved. Their dedication is driven by personal passions and a shared desire to give back. Our Team Members’ (TM) willingness to lead is a powerful example of how purpose and care translate into meaningful impact. Our TMs participate by giving their time, energy, and expertise in ways that matter most to the communities where we live and work. Together, they reflect dedication, passion, and culture of SME.
Supporting Impact Through Volunteer Time Off
SME actively supports community involvement through our Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program, which allows team members to dedicate paid time to causes and organizations that align with their values. By providing this resource, SME reinforces the belief that community engagement is an important part of who we are.
Since the beginning of 2026, 251 volunteer hours have been contributed across SME.
These hours represent leadership, initiative, and a shared commitment to building stronger communities through action.
Creating Lasting Change Through Community Partnerships
Community partnerships are a cornerstone of how SME supports and invests in the places where we live and work. Through SME Cares, we prioritize relationships with organizations that align with our values and address real, local needs. These partnerships provide opportunities for hands‑on service, mentorship, and sustained support that create impact beyond a single moment.
For example, SME proudly supports Life Remodeled’s annual seven‑day project in Detroit, focused on revitalizing neighborhoods and building stronger, more sustainable communities. During this initiative, team members work side by side on projects that support Life Remodeled’s mission and deliver visible, long‑term impact for the communities they serve.
SME team members also help inspire and guide the next generation of professionals through the ACE Mentor Program. By serving as mentors and raising donations that fund student scholarships, team members share their knowledge, experience, and encouragement with students. Their dedication supports educational growth and career exploration while strengthening the future of both our industry and our communities.

As we recognize National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the people who make SME Cares possible. Through their leadership, passion, and dedication, our Team Members continue to strengthen our communities and shape a culture rooted in purpose, generosity, and care.
