Established industry professional returns to SME equipped with valuable professional experience to help continue firm’s growth strategies

 Plymouth, Mich., – SME, a professional consulting firm for the geosciences, materials and the environment, announced Paul C. Larsen, P.E., has joined the firm as a regional vice president for the Indianapolis and Cincinnati offices. The announcement was made by SME President and CEO Mark K. Kramer, PE.

Larsen will be furthering SME’s Build Indiana and Build Ohio objectives. He will partner with Vice President Mike Meddock, PE and the rest of the regional team in developing and expanding the central Indiana, northern Kentucky and southern Ohio markets. Larsen will also work closely with Vice President Dan Roeser, PG and Senior Business Development Manager Erin Ryan to help them grow and expand SME services throughout Ohio.  

For the past 35 years, Larsen has helped his Midwest clients with their most difficult challenges. His extensive experience with major projects in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania matches SME’s strategic plan for continued geographic growth. “We are ecstatic to officially welcome Paul back to the SME family”, said Kramer. “Paul’s experience both with our firm and across the industry is crucial to the progress of our company in two burgeoning markets. His return home to SME is nothing short of an exceptional opportunity.” 
Prior to rejoining SME, Larsen led operations for NTH Consultants, Ltd. in Indianapolis and Cleveland. Before NTH, he was with Engineered Testing Systems (ETS) in Indianapolis, later acquired by PSI. Entering as an entry level field engineer, he later advanced to regional manager during his first tenure at SME. At the time of his departure, Larsen oversaw SME’s outstate operations in Bay City, Lansing and Kalamazoo, Mich. While in Lansing, Robert Rabeler, P.E. and Larsen collaborated to help the regional operation triple in size over a seven-year time period.  

Larsen has served as an officer or committee member on several professional and technical organizations including; American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), The Geoprofessional Business Association (ASFE), Associated General Contractors (AGC), Ohio Society of Professional Engineers and others. He was Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE) Grand Valley Chapter Young Engineer of the Year, ASCE Lansing-Jackson, Mich. branch president and a graduate of ASFE IPP Class 01 (now called Fundamentals of Professional Practice) while with SME previously. He is a graduate of the Lacy Leadership Program in Indianapolis and participated in their LEAD Program and Opportunity Indianapolis. Currently, he is an active alumnus of Leadership Indianapolis and serves on the Board of Directors for the Cleveland Engineering Society (CES).

Larsen received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and geotechnical engineering from Michigan State University.
