SME Awards 2016 Gail M. Barton Memorial Scholarships

Each year since 2011, SME awards two college scholarships to children of SME team members in honor of Gail Barton — a woman who believed in the value of a college education and who exemplified and lived SME's values every day with dignity, grace and unfaltering hope. This year’s recipients are Caitlyn Beth Gossett and Troy Masserant.

Ms. Barton served as SME's Collections Manager with resolve and a keen sense of professionalism for over 22 years; from 1989 to 2011. She was a trusted friend and mentor and a devoted wife and mother. Ms. Barton was active in her children's education and often spoke about the importance of putting college studies to good and practical use. She inspired her children to become engaged and productive members of society.

Focused on making a positive impact on the environment, Caitlyn Beth Gossett is enrolled in a 6-year accelerated program at University of Detroit Mercy, studying for a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering and a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering. She is a 2016 graduate of Berkley High school and is an avid reader and fan of anime. Caitlyn is the daughter of Mark Quimby, SME Senior Project Consultant.

Troy Masserant is on course for a career in law enforcement and aspires to a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigations. He is currently studying criminal justice at Eastern Michigan University where he has been a member of the EMU boxing club, and has recently joined the gymnastics club. Troy is the son of SME Project Consultant Brad Masserant and is a 2015 graduate of Fowlerville High School.

“SME is proud to be helping Caitlyn and Troy achieve their goals. Gail would have been impressed by their academic accomplishments and dedication to advancing their careers,” said Sherri Fountain, SPHR, Vice President of Human Resources.
