SCN Team Expands Across The Great Lakes Megaregion

Just five years after establishing its Steel, Coatings and Non-Destructive Testing (SCN) Group, SME is expanding the service to our Traverse City, Michigan, Cleveland, Ohio, and  metropolitan Louisville, Kentucky offices.

SME has been providing specialized non-destructive testing and inspection services in these regions for years. Building a physical presence in these new locations allows us to serve clients as a local resource and strengthen our network across the Great Lakes Megaregion.

“It is exciting to watch our SCN team grow. The team has quickly established a strong reputation for providing specialized inspection and assessment expertise,” said Mark K. Kramer, PE, SME’s President.

Led by Tiffany D. Vorhies, NACE CIP-2, SME’s team of certified inspectors and professional engineers has extensive experience in the testing of metals, welds and coatings. Our SCN team members conduct inspections in steel mills, fabrication shops, in the field, or in our laboratories. They inspect a variety of structures including bridges, buildings, towers, poles and sign structures. In addition to NDT, they provide QA/QC services; field inspection, testing and training in proper welding and bolting methods; and laboratory services.

Shawn R. Johnson, CWI, ASNT III is working in the Louisville Metro area, in SME’s newly opened office in New Albany, IN. With more than 22 years of experience, he provides nondestructive testing (NDT) and quality control (QC) reviews, as well as monitoring of erection, bolting and welding operations for buildings and weldments. Shawn holds level II and III certifications for various nondestructive testing methods and serves as SME’s corporate level III nondestructive tester. Brings specialty in ultrasonic and magnetic particle nondestructive testing to this region.

He will continue to work with automotive clients spread across the Midwest, while also serving as a resource to new clients in Northeast Ohio.  Bob is a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and provides nondestructive testing (NDT), quality control reviews, and monitoring of erection, bolting and welding operations for buildings and weldments. He has nearly 25 years of welding experience.
