SME provided Construction Materials Services (CMS) for multiple phases of the Saginaw United High School project, including the Tower, Music Rooms, and Connector Building. The project included both single‑story and multi‑story structural components, with steel framing supported on augered cast‑in‑place pile foundations, as well as associated site and paving improvements.

SME’s services were performed during active construction and included field testing, field review, documentation, and laboratory services in support of code‑required structural and life‑safety elements. Work was coordinated closely with on‑site construction personnel and performed in accordance with the project documents and applicable Michigan Building Code requirements, as documented in SME’s field reports and summary letters.

Construction materials testing and special inspection services included concrete reinforcing steel installation reviews, concrete testing and documentation, structural steel field reviews, masonry observation and sampling, spray applied fire resistive materials (SFRM) and firestopping field reviews, and earthwork testing and observations. Laboratory services supported field activities through compressive strength testing, soil classification and compaction testing, masonry material testing, and SFRM analyses.

SME provided these services on an intermittent basis aligned with the construction schedule and sequencing, supporting multi‑phase installation and integration of new building components with adjacent structures. Saginaw United High School required careful coordination of structural reviews, documentation, and reporting across different building elements and construction periods.

This work reflects SME’s experience supporting complex institutional projects where sequencing, structural systems, and code compliance are critical, and where coordination with construction managers and project teams plays a central role in successful project delivery for Saginaw United High School.
