Revitalizing Detroit: SME Joins Life Remodeled’s Six Day Project

On October 3, 2025, SME partnered with Life Remodeled for its annual Six Day Project, a large-scale volunteer initiative focused on revitalizing Detroit neighborhoods through community collaboration. SME has proudly partnered with Life Remodeled since 2020, supporting their mission through hands-on service, fundraising, and donations of essential items.

In 2024, the annual Six Day Project brought together over 5,000 volunteers from more than 150 organizations to clear 1,100 cubic yards of trash and 990 cubic yards of brush from 283 blocks across Detroit. Life Remodeled’s Six Day Project brings together businesses, nonprofits, and community members to tackle large-scale neighborhood improvements in a short timeframe. By joining forces with other partners, SME helped amplify the impact of this initiative, proving that collaboration can drive meaningful change.

This year’s project focused on the neighborhood near City Airport on Detroit’s east side. SME’s 25 volunteers spent the day cleaning up seven city blocks – removing debris, mowing grass, and trimming overgrown brush and weeds. These efforts not only improved the physical landscape but also contributed to a greater sense of pride and safety within the community.

Life Remodeled focuses on neighborhood revitalization by transforming vacant school buildings into “opportunity hubs.” These spaces are brought back to life and filled with nonprofit organizations that provide youth programs, workforce development, and essential human services to tens of thousands of Detroit residents each year. Their work ensures more students succeed academically, families access critical health resources, and community members secure higher-paying jobs to support their families in Detroit. Guided by their values: Community First, Always Find a Way, and Bold Humility, Life Remodeled is building a future where revitalization in Detroit focuses on community members and access to resources – with a lasting impact.
