SME operates full‑service, state‑of‑the‑art in‑house laboratories that support our clients’ geotechnical, materials, and construction needs. Our laboratories perform a wide range of tests on aggregate, soil, asphalt, concrete, masonry, metals, coatings, and numerous other building materials. From routine testing to complex forensic evaluations, our team provides the data and insight needed to keep projects moving and inform sound engineering decisions.
Our laboratory technicians work closely with SME’s Construction Materials, Building Materials, Pavements, and Geotechnical teams to select appropriate test methods, interpret results, and help solve problems efficiently. This integrated approach allows us to provide responsive, practical support that helps improve performance, quality, and constructability.

AASHTO Accreditation
SME laboratory locations maintain accreditation through the AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP). This accreditation applies only to the specific laboratory location(s) that have been accredited and only to the test methods included in that laboratory’s official scope of accreditation.

Quality You Can Rely On
Our laboratories participate in national proficiency sample programs and follow standardized test procedures in compliance with ASTM and other governing agencies. Equipment is calibrated regularly, and test results are reviewed by experienced technical staff to ensure accuracy and consistency.
