SME Promotes Team Members to Key Facilities and Infrastructure Positions

SME’s Facilities and Infrastructure Business Unit has seen significant success in the last several years. With the addition of Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI) and Survey services, as well as expansion into new regions and markets, and exceptional professional development of many of our Team Members, the opportunity for new roles and responsibilities arose. As a result, we are pleased to announce promotions in several service groups.

Each of these highly respected Team Members bring valuable, diverse experience to their respective roles, and has demonstrated a passion for making those around them better, while placing an emphasis on technical excellence to help SME better support and collaborate with our clients.

Tiffany Vorhies, NACE CIP-2, PMP has been appointed Facilities and Infrastructure Business Unit Leader. Since joining SME in 2006, she has worked to build our Steel, Coatings, and Nondestructive Testing Service group and has built strong relationships with many of our largest clients. As Business Unit Leader, she will work with our Civil Design, Construction Engineering and Inspection, Materials, Pavements, and Survey groups to grow SME’s presence in their respective service areas and strengthening their teams’ technical, project management, and service delivery capabilities. Tiffany has also recently been named SME’s Director of Project Management.

Jason Schwartzenberger, PE has been named Chief Engineer. Known for his expertise in pavement design, management, and evaluation, as well as his commitment to top-notch service delivery, Jason is a valuable resource to our team members and our clients. In his new role, he will leverage his more than 25 years of experience to design and deliver innovative solutions to our clients, and mentor our team members as they develop their own unique areas of expertise. Jason also serves as Group Leader for SME’s Pavement service group.

Eric Murrell, RA, CCS, BECxP, CxA+BE, CSI has been named Chief Architect. Eric transitions to this role after servicing as Group Leader for our Materials service group. Eric is a recognized expert in evaluation, consulting, and design services for building enclosures, including, weatherproofing, atypical flashing conditions, and multiple material interface detailing. In his new role, Eric is focused not only on supporting SME’s clients but also bringing additional visibility to the important role that enclosure commissioning plays in building lifecycle.

Kevin Glupker, PE has been named Group Leader for Construction Engineering Inspection Services (CEI). SME has recently added CEI services, and Kevin has played a key role in developing client relationships and developing a strong team that is qualified to provide inspection and testing on roadway and bridge projects for MDOT and local agencies. Kevin has more than 18 years of experience in pavement evaluation, design, and construction on both public and private sector projects.

Jayson Graves, PE has been named Group Leader for Civil Design Services. He has 19 years of experience at SME and over 28 years in the construction industry. In his role as Group Leader, Jayson works with our team of engineers and CADD professionals to design rehabilitation and new construction land development plans and specifications. Jayson is passionate about helping our clients navigate municipal, state, and federal agencies review and permitting processes and approvals related to stormwater management, wetlands, soil erosion and sediment control, and rights of way.

Nick Jablonski, PE has been named Group Leader for SME’s Steel, Coatings, and Nondestructive Testing (SCN) Group, which includes Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI’s), nondestructive testing (NDT) specialists, coatings consultants, and concrete fabrication specialists. His 13 years of experience with SME includes providing field reviews, consulting services, project management, and team leadership related to engineered materials and construction.

Hayder Al-Hilal, PE, SMSI, CIP-1, CCI-2 has been named Group Leader for Building Materials Services, which includes teams dedicated to building enclosure services and structural engineering and assessment. During his nearly 20-year career, Hayder has developed unique expertise in the assessment and maintenance of existing facilities and infrastructure to maximize their useful life. Hayder is also a specialist in providing nondestructive assessment of concrete structures using sonic, ultrasonic and impulse radar testing equipment.

Along with Survey Group Leader and Vice President, Jeff Evans, PS this team will work together to leverage SME’s multiservice approach to provide clients with practical solutions on their complex facility and infrastructure projects.
